It all happened in the village of Resitnikia, today called Agios Prodromos ...

I, the Holy Judge (Nayip) of the district of Salonica, Mehmed Mecid confirm that:

The citizen of the Malta quarter of the city of Salonica, known as Saroula, daughter of George [Tzortzi], Christian in religion, by her legal attorney, her husband mr. Guha Alize Felix, protected foreign citizen – his power of attorney is being certified by the testimony of hodja Kemal son of [blank] and Markos son of Ioannis - and authorized to certify, in front of our holy judge, his statement and confession of sale and the citizens of the ciftlik of Resitnikia, which is situated in the area of the section of Pazarouda, Ioannis son of Emmanouil, Dimitrios son of Efthimios, Zaharias son of Avgerinos, Stavros son of Naoumi, Constantinos son of Moschos and Papagiannis son of Mavroudis, with the presence of their attorney mr. Prasakakis Emmanouil, protected foreign citizen, who has the legal authority to declare sale’s acceptance.

[All these] having appeared in front of me in the Holy court, state and admit that the above referred Saroula, has under her immediate possession – certified by holy official titles, two separated houses (peyzik) and below them two stables (ahur) and a stated yard, fifty five farmhouses, a barn, a watermill and a thousand and two hundred sycamore [trees] inside the area of the above mentioned ciftlik.

So, she sells all of them equally and in partnership in the above buyers in the price of 36.000 piastres [kurush]. The above mentioned buyers stated that they accept the purchase of these houses and estates. The above seller has under her immediate possession and with the permission of the State, the free of any abeyance estates inside the periphery of the borders of the above mentioned ciftlik and sells them in the above mentioned buyers in the price of 36.000 piastres [kurush]. The buyers declared that they accepted the transaction and the transcription, in their names, they counted the value and the price of the above written buildings, land and estates – raised in the price of 72.000 piastres – and having counted them, they found them complete and gave them to the above mentioned seller Saroula. So, Saroula having lost the ownership and possession of all of the above described buildings, estates and land, made perfect owners and holders of them the referred buyers, Ioannis, Dimitrios, Zaharias, Stavrakis, Constantinos and Papagiannis, which hereinafter have the right to own, possess and control the above described farm [ciftlik] with its buildings and land.

Thereafter it is being composed this document and having read in front of the principals, their attorneys and the below written witnesses, it is being legally validated by us today, in the 19th of month Cemazi'ül ahir 1262 [1846]. The witnesses who are present, Mufti Nayip [Holy Dudge] Abdul-Kadir, Secretary Naim, Secretary Hasan Hilmid, Secretary Ali and Prime usher Cohajibasi Kasim.

Inside the area of the section of Pazarouda, of the administration [Sanjak] of Salonica, there is the ciftlik of Resetniki with its arable and waste fields, winter’s pasture [Kisla], summer’s pasture [Yazla], meadows (cayir) and other uncultivated area. The holder and owner of this ciftlik Saroula, daughter of George [Tzortzi], Christian in religion and citizen of Salonica, in the Malta quarter, being legally represented by her husband mr. Gula Alize Felix, protected foreign citizen – his power of attorney is being certified by the testimony of hodja Kemal son of Markatos and Markos son of Ioannis – with his own will sold and grant [the ciftlik] in the inhabitants of it Ioannis son of Emmanouil, Dimitrios son of Efthimios, Zaharis son of Avgerinos, Stavros son of Naoumi, Constantinos son of Moschos and Papagiannis son Mavroudis, in the price of 36.000 piastres [kurush]. The above mentioned buyers accepted the purchase and paid down the price, as it is proved by the officially brought holy judged document [Hodjeti Seriye].

According to the relative imperial decree, the buyers paid in the treasury of Salonica the legal right of transfer 3 %. So [the buyers], having under their control and ownership the above mentioned ciftlik, with its farms and waste fields, winter’s pasture [Kisla], summer’s pasture [Yazla] and meadows [cayir], have the obligation to pay in the treasury the 10 % annual tax and other legal taxes.

This title of ownership [tapuname] was written and given in their hands to prove that the buyers can unimpedimently hold and own this ciftlik, with the above described areas.

7th day of the month Ramazan 1262 [1846].
